A Hidden Garden Café in Marylebone, London for Coffee Lovers and Design Seekers

In a quiet corner of Marylebone a neighborhood tucked just beyond London’s busiest streets you’ll find, White Mulberries, a café that feels like a secret. Soft light spills through its windows, the tables inside are worn just right, and even in the evening hours, when the chairs are stacked and the pastries gone, it hums with quiet promise.

GO A LITTLE FURTHER

I first passed it walking back to our flat in Dorset Square. With the shutters closed and the garden barely visible, it still beckoned. I returned first thing the next morning.

The place was alive: the espresso machine steaming, the scent of coffee and summer in the air, and a slow rhythm of locals flowing in, kids, couples, dog-walkers, and coffee lovers. There were fresh pastries, bowls, and beautiful glass containers filled with some healthy snacks.

But the magic happens in the back.

Through a small hallway lies a garden courtyard shaded by olive trees. The seating is simple, with small modern tables and chairs that invite you to linger. Here, you’re away from the clatter, the conversations feel softer, and the coffee somehow tastes even better. If that is possible. It’s a place where you could stay for hours unnoticed, or just pause briefly in the morning sun.

They serve an exceptional roast, offer Minor Figures oat milk (a good sign), and yes, dairy too, for traditionalists. The food is thoughtful: from flaky pastries to granola, yogurt, and a handful of savory items for a light lunch. Everything feels lightly handled, never overdone.

Whether you’re just passing through or settling in for a long read, it’s the kind of space that reflects what we love about thoughtful design: it’s inviting, useful, beautiful and somehow feels like it’s always been there.
